The Patient Advisory Group is a group of people based across Scotland with an interest in healthcare research. The group is facilitated by Carol Porteous. We were set up in June 2013 and continue to grow and get involved in more activities as time goes on. Image The role of Patient and Public Involvement Advisor has been held by Carol Porteous. Carol has worked in patient public involvement and engagement for over ten years in Wales, England and Scotland. About the Patient Advisory Group Image Carol and the Patient Advisory Group are able to assist in a range of topics, including: Work with you to identify the best methods of involvement for your study or research programme Help you to find people to involve Revise patient information sheets and lay summaries to ensure they are clear and understandable to lay people Help you with costing patient involvement into your grant application Review information booklets and websites aimed at patients or a public audience Provide training for patient and public involvement in research, through five courses which cover various aspects of PPI in research, including introducing PPI in research, PPI in funding applications and writing in plain English We can also provide tailored training for specific groups Review grant applications, IRAS forms and publications pre-submission Advise on bursaries for patient and public involvement, providing a small amount of funding for researchers to consult patients at the grant application stage Give talks to professional and student audiences about their personal experiences of involvement Advise on public engagement activities This article was published on 2022-09-26
